Sourdough Bagels
Sourdough Bagels
Ingredients:
- 113 grams sourdough starter
- 236 grams water
- 2 spoonfuls of honey
- 10 grams salt
- 560 grams flour
For boiling the bagels
- 10 cups water
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- About 16 hours before baking the bagels, feed your sourdough starter
- About 4 hours after feeding (or whenever active) mix all of the bagel ingredients together
- Let the dough rise for another 8-10 hours
- Shape the dough into 8-ball shapes
- Use a wooden spoon and push a hole through the middle, and then use your fingers to enlarge the bagel hole
- Let the bagels sit for another hour
- Boil 10 cups of water in a large pot
- Add baking soda and brown sugar
- Set 2-4 bagels in the pot at a time, and boil for one minute on each side
- Preheat the oven to 425°
- Set the bagels on a pan
- This would be the time to add seasonings, like sesame seeds or everything seasoning
- bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown on top
Note: For berry or fruit-flavored bagels, replace the water in this recipe with juiced berries/fruit of your choice. I have tried blackberry, blueberry, and strawberry.
